Dr. Chad Walding: Essentials for Staying Healthy During the COVID-19 Outbreak

Dear NativePath Family,

As many of you know… cities have begun shutting down in an effort to slow the outbreak and “flatten the curve.”

Many are concerned that a nationwide shutdown is not far off. It’s likely that all of us we’ll be forced to stay at home until this passes.

I do believe this is the right thing to do given everything I’ve been researching about the virus.

If this happens it will be a challenging time for us so it’s really important that we stick together as a community and help support each other.

With every challenge comes incredible opportunities for growth and this is how I encourage you to look at this situation.

It can be very tempting to let fear, worry, and anxiety control your mind. I’m guilty of this myself…

If I catch myself checking the news too often or being glued to social media… I notice an energy of panic all over my body.

In times like this I try and step back, watch my thoughts, feel my emotions, and breathe. This helps me put my body, mind, and spirit in a state of TRUST.

Here at NativePath we are committed to your health and well-being. We want to help you move through this time with ease.

I wanted to send this message to give you ideas about what you can do to prepare and how we plan to help you during this time.

First off…

I want to stress that NOW (more than ever) is the time to be thinking about how to optimize your IMMUNE SYSTEM.

This is especially the case if you’re over 70 like both of my parents and even more so if you have heart conditions like my Mom.

Optimizing your immune system is very much like optimizing your health.

It all comes down to eating, moving, and living in harmony with your biology as best you can. Doing this along with smart supplementation is your best way to manage our situation.

Here’s a breakdown of the essential things you need to focus on:

DIET

AVOID: You must eliminate any inflammatory foods. You will not be able to supplement your way out of an unhealthy diet. Be mindful about what you’re stocking up on. Please avoid sugar and processed/refined foods to whatever extent possible. Depending on your family’s history, reduce or eliminate dairy (especially cow dairy) and gluten. Please see our NativeBody Reset Shopping Guide here for help..

EAT: The healthier the intestinal tract is, the more controlled the inflammatory response will be. Healthy fiber is the best way to achieve this. Have your family eat as many vegetables as possible. Onions and garlic not only have amazing antibacterial and anti-viral properties, but they are also the BEST prebiotic foods around. You’ll also want to continue taking Collagen and stock up. Collagen is extremely effective in helping to “heal and seal '' the gut lining.

SLEEP

Getting quality rest is one of the best ways to boost your immune system. During sleep, the body heals and repairs itself. Not allowing your body this much-needed restoration can significantly impact the body’s ability to fight off infection. This is why you may wake up with a sniffle or cough when you haven’t gotten enough sleep. You are more likely to get sick when your immune system is run down due to lack of sleep.  Now is a great to time begin our F*R*E*E 7-Day Sleep Challenge!

WATER

Water helps to carry oxygen to your body cells, which results in properly functioning systems. It also works in removing toxins from the body, so drinking more of it could help prevent toxins from building up and having a negative impact on your immune system. We recommend trying to drink half your body weight in ounces of water everyday. It also helps to add a pinch of salt which helps the absorption of water and gives you essential minerals.

MOVEMENT

Physical activity may help flush bacteria out of the lungs and airways. This may reduce your chance of getting a cold, flu, or other illness. Exercise causes change in antibodies and white blood cells (WBC). WBCs are the body's immune system cells that fight disease. We have many follow along workouts in the “units” section of our private facebook group as well as the “movement” section on our website. Please keep moving!

SUN

Regular sun exposure is one of the most robust ways to up active Vitamin-D levels in your body, it can help beef up your immune system as well. Getting early morning sun and evening sun is a great way to do this. It also helps to regulate your circadian rhythm… so your daytime and nighttime hormones will be more balanced. This will help you sleep better and boost your immunity.

BREATHING

Perhaps most important of all is that you create a state of peace within your body. One of the best ways to do this is through mindful breathing. The more stressed you are the weaker your immune system will be. The more calm and relaxed you are the stronger it will be. Here’s a video where I walk you through some simple breathing techniques

This is also a good time to practice meditation and prayer. So much wisdom, peace, and insights can be found in the sweetness of silence. If you ask for calmness and peace of mind it will be given to you.

CONNECTION

One of the biggest challenges we’re already facing is “social distancing.” This means we can’t hug each other or even interact face to face like we’re used to. We are social and emotional creatures who are hardwired for connection. We’re meant to be in tribes and living life together.

I encourage not to practice “social distancing” but rather “physical distancing.” It’s important that you still connect with the people you love and communities that lift you up. Please use technology with things like Zoom, FaceTime, etc… to help cultivate connection. I also encourage you to check in frequently to our NativePath Private Community and let us know how you’re doing. We must stick together and not completely isolate ourselves.

Like many of you, Brenda and I have been stocking up with at least a 3 months supply. We feel more secure having done this.

We are concerned that with a major lockdown it will be difficult to get to healthy food, household cleaners, and other needed items.

Here at NativePath we’re also concerned that this lockdown may mean the people who help ship our products will no longer be able to go to work… and so we may not be able to get our products out to you.

I’ve already sent my parents and in-laws a 3 month supply of our products that help support the immune system. We’re also doing the same for all our NativePath employees and customer experience team.

Below is a list of products we recommend to help support your immune system. You may want to consider stocking up soon in case a shutdown happens in the next 48 hours. Here’s what to get:

COLLAGEN: helps to “heal and seal” the gut lining. Your gut is where over 70% of your immune system resides. The more intact your gut lining is the better you’ll eliminate harmful bacteria and toxins that may weaken your body.

PROBIOTICS: helps to boost the immune system and ward off inflammatory responses in the gut. Probiotics also keep the gut healthy, to ensure the immune system functions well.

TURMERIC: Turmeric is a natural way to help bolster the immune system by increasing the immunomodulating capacity of the body. Try adding extra turmeric into your diet during this time of stress to help give your immune system a little boost.

NATIVE NUTRIENTS: 3-in-1 plant-based organic formula that combines 21 of history's healthiest whole food nutrients, superfoods, and superfruits into one easy-to-mix blend. These superfoods are the source of a chemical signal that is important to a fully functioning immune system. This ensures that immune cells in the gut and the skin known as intra-epithelial lymphocytes function properly.

KRILL Researchers from the University of Aberdeen (Aberdeen, Scotland) have reported that krill oil supplementation may increase markers of immune function after a bout of acute exercise.

In the coming days I will be checking in daily via email and FB Lives. I’ll be covering other tips to help you eat, move, and live in a way that optimizes your immune system.

It’s such a special community we have here and I thank you all for being a part of it.

I hope that you and your family are well and find peace during this time.

We send our prayers and love to you and your family.

Let’s stay strong and stick together!
